Brador with hat trick, Tigers advance to first NCAA Regional Final

TAMPA, Fla. – Ali Brador registered a hat trick in the first half and the West Alabama Tigers never looked back in a 5-1 win over the No. 3 seed Tampa Spartans in the second round of the NCAA South Regional Sunday afternoon.

UWA improves to 16-2-1 and extends the Tigers' unbeaten streak to 14 games. The Spartans saw their season come to a close at 9-4-3.

"I've said it before, we're not here to play bingo. We're in it to win it," said Head coach Matthew Thorne. "I'm very proud of the lads. We've made history today, making it to the region finals, getting into the "Sweet 16" part of the tournament. Tampa is a fantastic team. That was our best performance all year. The boys were good moving the ball. Very impressive."

The native of Ronchin, France scored with 15:59, 30:42 and 38:44 on the clock for his three goals in the first half. Brador pushed his goal total to 15 on the season. Harrison Roberts assisted on the first and third goals of the hat trick.

"Absolutely lethal. Lethal in front of the goal. He's been doing it all week in training and even yesterday everything he was hitting found the back of the net," said Thorne on Brador's game. "I really did expect a few goals from him today. He went in there full of confidence and was absolutely amazing. Credit to Ali, everything he got today he deserved. The hat trick was fantastic. Not just Ali, but all across the board the team was 10 out of 10. They really played smashing today.

Stephen Carroll scored his first goal of the year off an assist from Gaspard Voituriez-Donnelly to put the Tigers up 4-1 with 51:52 passed. Kiaran Maule made it 5-1 at the 64:08 mark on the third Roberts assist of the day. Maule's goal was his second of the year.

Tampa's Juancho Fernandez tied the game 1-1 at the 18:29 mark with a goal on an assist from Lewis Sugden.

The Spartans outshot UWA 19-18 as the Tigers took their foot off the gas in the second half. However, UWA took 10 shots-on-goal as opposed to seven for the Spartans. Brador led there as well with three SOGs on five attempts.

"I like to say "TCB" at this stage. We took care of business after this long trip to Tampa," said Thorne. "We took care of business and it was a professional performance from the very first whistle."

UWA advances to play the winner of Palm Beach Atlantic and Lynn University next weekend in the first regional final in program history. More details on the date, time and place will be released.
