Daniels Pours in 25 in UWA Win at Miles

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – J'Nyiah Daniels poured in 25 points and West Alabama allowed Miles just five field goals in the second half as the Tigers defeated the Golden Bears, 66-54, Monday at Knox-Windham Gym in women's college basketball.
 
The victory is the second straight for the Tigers, improving UWA to 2-2. Miles dropped to 1-2.
 
West Alabama led 26-19 after the first quarter, but Miles outscored the Tigers 15-12 in the second period to cut the UWA halftime advantage to 38-34.
 
West Alabama shot 55 percent from the floor in the first half, converting 15-of-27 field goal attempts, and continued its hot shooting through the second half to convert 26-of-51 in the game (51 percent).
 
Miles managed to make just 15-of-56 (26 percent) from the floor, but stayed in the game from the free throw line, making 21-of-33.
 
West Alabama did not attempt a free throw in the second quarter, with the first team foul for Miles coming with 1:03 left in the first half. The Tigers were 10-of-16 for the game. Three Tigers fouled out of the game.
 
Daniels was 8-of-11 from the floor, including making all three three-pointers she attempted. Tazsa Garrett-Hammett rounded out double-figure scoring for West Alabama with 12 points and led the Tigers with seven rebounds.
 
Amoni Walker scored 11 points and Jasmine Hollis 10 to lead Miles. Hollis collected a game-high 12 rebounds, but UWA won the rebounding battle 43-32.
 
West Alabama dominated inside, outscoring Miles 40-14 in the paint, with post players Chloe Culpepper and Sydney Bozeman combining for 16 points and 10 rebounds.
 
West Alabama remains on the road, playing Nova Southeastern in the first day of the NSU Thanksgiving Classic Friday at 1 p.m. in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Miles is host to Clark Atlanta Saturday at 1 p.m.
