Nova Southeastern Squeaks By UWA, 77-75

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern erased a nine-point West Alabama lead over the last seven minutes to edge West Alabama, 77-75, Friday at the NSU Thanksgiving Classic at Rick Case Arena.
 
The Sharks improved to 4-1 with the victory, snapping a modest two-game win streak for West Alabama. The Tigers dropped to 2-3.
 
Both teams led by nine points at different times in a game that featured 14 lead changes and three ties.
 
West Alabama outshot the Sharks from the floor, making 28-of-58 (43 percent). Nova was 25-of-61 (41 percent). The Tigers were 6-of-11 from behind the three-point arc, while Nova was 8-of-21. The Sharks were 19-of-25 from the free throw line and UWA was 13-of-16. NSU won the rebounding battle, 39-31.
 
J'Nyiah Daniels led all scorers, pouring in 20 points for West Alabama, giving her 45 points over the last two games (22.5 ppg). Freshman Tazsa Garrett-Hammett chipped in 19 points and seven rebounds. Chloe Culpepper had six rebounds.
 
Megan Piggott scored 17 points to pace Nova Southeastern, followed by Kayla Wright with 14 and Skyla Osceola with 11.
 
West Alabama concludes play in the Thanksgiving Classic by meeting Embry-Riddle Saturday at 11 a.m. central time. This is the second meeting between the Tigers and Eagles, with Embry-Riddle earning a 59-45 victory on Nov. 11 at the Regional Tipoff Challenge. Nova is host to Lee on Saturday.
