Twenty-Four Student-Athletes Set to Graduate Saturday, Seven with Scholar-Athlete Medallions

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Twenty-four student-athletes are expected to be among University of West Alabama students having degrees conferred at the 2017 Fall Commencement exercises Saturday at Pruitt Hall on the UWA campus.
 
Nearly 700 are expected to graduate, with just over 250 being present at the ceremonies.
 
Seven of the 24 have earned the West Alabama Scholar-Athlete Medallion, signifying they have graduated with at least a 3.0 grade point average and completed their athletic eligibility at UWA.
 
"This is a great time of the year as we congratulate and applaud our UWA student-athletes achieving their goal of graduation," UWA Director of Athletics Stan Williamson said. "We celebrate their accomplishment, sharing the joy with them and their families on this special milestone. 
 
"We are especially pleased to award West Alabama Scholar Athlete Medallions to distinguish those who have earned success in both the arena and the classroom," Williamson said. "Graduation is obviously one of those extremely significant milestones in everyone's life."
 
Ten sports are represented among the two-dozen graduates. Football leads the way with 12, followed by men's golf, women's cross country and baseball with two each. Women's basketball, men's soccer, men's track, women's track, men's rodeo and women's golf had one graduate apiece.
