Miles Executes Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre on West Alabama

CORNER, Ala. – Miles College took advantage of 15 hits and eight West Alabama errors on the way to a 14-2 college baseball victory over West Alabama Tuesday at Corner High School Stadium.
 
Miles' victory snapped a four-game winning streak for West Alabama, dropping the Tigers to 5-3. The Golden Bears improved to 5-2. This was the second meeting between the Tigers and Golden Bears this season, with UWA winning 10-2 in Livingston last Friday.
 
Miles scored it's runs in bunches Tuesday, picking up four in the third inning, three in the fourth and five more in the seventh. The Golden Bears capped off the scoring on a bases-loaded walk and wild pitch in the ninth.
 
West Alabama scored both its runs in the bottom of the seventh when Tyler Sims drove in a run on a ground out and Nick Delgado had an RBI single.
 
Ryan Bargery had four hits and drove in two runs to lead the Miles attack. Alex Bentley had three hits, while Reeves Brashear and Peyton Logan chipped in two apiece. Bargery and Brashear both doubled for the Golden Bears.
 
Dylan Little had three of West Alabama's six hits.
 
Miles starter Matthew White (1-0) worked seven innings to earn the pitching win, allowing two runs on five hits, while walking six and striking out two. UWA starter Leighton Lary (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out two.
 
West Alabama begins Gulf South Conference play with a doubleheader at home Saturday against Delta State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Miles is host to Tougaloo in a noon doubleheader Saturday.
