Baseball Home Opener Postponed Until Friday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Due to inclement weather, West Alabama's scheduled 2017 baseball home opener against Miles College has been postponed from Wednesday to Friday and will played as part of a day-night doubleheader at Tartt Field.

The Tigers were already set to host Lindenwood (1-2) Friday at 3 p.m. and that game will be played as scheduled. The Miles College (3-0) game will now be played at 6 p.m.

West Alabama comes into the doubleheader with a 1-2 record after opening the season with a three-game series at Saint Leo last weekend. Designated hitter Luke Phillips and second baseman Joel Murphy lead the Tigers in hitting, both posting a .400 average against the Lions. Phillips' effort earned him Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week honors.

The Tigers hit seven home runs in the series at Saint Leo, including three by right fielder Taylor Stafford and two off the bat of third baseman Marcus Morrisette. Stafford leads the team with seven runs batted in.

Admission to Tartt Field for Tiger baseball is $5. UWA All-Sports Passes will be honored and West Alabama students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
