Tigers Pick Up Extra Inning Win to Sweep Lee

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Marcus Morrisette raced home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift West Alabama a to a 4-3 Gulf South Conference baseball victory over Lee Sunday at Tartt Field.

The Tigers (24-10, 14-7) are now 1-1 in extra-inning games and have a five-game winning streak heading into a midweek non-conference home game against Spring Hill at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Lee (20-15, 9-12) lost its fifth straight.

"We kept fighting and kept pressuring them until things finally worked out for us," UWA coach Gary Rundles said. "That's what winning teams do. We made big pitches when we needed big pitches and got big plays when we needed big plays."

Tiger reliever Jay Booth (1-0) earned his first win at UWA. The fourth Tiger pitcher of the day went two innings and did not allow a run on two hits while striking out one. Lee reliever Kit Larson (1-4) took the loss, allowing the game-winning run and two hits while striking out four and walking three.

West Alabama opened the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Luke Phillip's single chased Nick Delgado, who had singled to open the inning. Spencer Mossburg singled to lead off the Lee fourth and later scored on a wild pitch to even the score at 1-1.

The Flames took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Peyton Meeker reached on an error to open the inning and ended up scoring on a sacrifice fly by Geremy Walton.

West Alabama used an RBI single from Luke Latham and a pair of Lee throwing errors to score two more in the bottom of the seventh and took a 3-2 lead into the top of the ninth.

Jordan Howard walked to open the ninth inning for Lee and scored to tie the game at 3-3 on a double from Nathan Wierzgac.

Morrisette reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on a single by Brock Montgomery to set up the game winner on the third wild pitch from Larson in three innings.

In just his second start of the season, Latham led West Alabama hitters with three hits in as many at bats. Latham is now 8-for-15 (.533) on the season. Delgado and Joel Murphy had two stolen bases for the Tigers.

Walton had three of Lee's 13 hits and Wierzgac had a pair of doubles and Tyler Payne had two singles.
