Big innings Propel AUM to 9-4 Baseball Win Over West Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Auburn Montgomery took advantage of a pair of big innings to defeat West Alabama, 9-4, Tuesday at the AUM Baseball Complex.
 
The Warhawks used a five-run third inning and a four-run fifth to improve their record to 24-22. West Alabama is 30-16.
 
West Alabama jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Dylan Little reached on an error and was doubled in by Marcus Morrisette. Lincoln Stubbs ground ball to second chased Morrisette, who had swiped third for his 15th stolen base of the season.
 
AUM took advantage of three hits, a pair of walks and a hit batter to score five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-3 lead.
 
Taylor Stafford and Luke Latham singled in runs in the top of the fifth to cut the AUM lead to 5-4, but the Warhawks answered by taking advantage of five hits and two Tiger errors to score four runs in the bottom of the inning, stretching the lead back to the final 9-4 margin.
 
Warhawks starting pitcher Garrett Deloney (5-4) picked up the pitching win, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out six and walking one over 5.1 innings. UWA reliever Colton Morgan (3-3) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on a hit and walking five over 1.1 innings pitched.
 
Stafford and Morrisette had two hits apiece in an eight-hit Tiger attack. Both had doubles in the game.
 
Trevor Flynn had three hits and drove in two runs to lead an 11-hit Warhawks attack. Michael Tedford, Nathan Langley ad Brandon Davis chipped in two hits each for AUM.
 
The Tigers return to Gulf South Conference play Saturday, hosting Alabama Huntsville in a doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. AUM travels to Albany State on Wednesday.
