Sandifer Leads Tigers to Comeback Win over Union

FLORENCE, Ala.Briana Sandifer pounded out 25 kills to lead West Alabama to a 3-2 come-from-behind college volleyball victory over Union in Friday's final match of the UNA Classic at Flowers Hall.

After falling behind in the first two sets (24-26, 18-25), West Alabama rallied to win three straight by scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 19-17.

"Wow. That's really all I can say. This team is so resilient," UWA head coach Alexis Meeks said. "Anytime you are down 0-2 and can come back and win it's phenomenal, but Union didn't hand it to us, we took it and that was the difference."

The win was the third consecutive for the Tigers, improving the UWA record to 6-4. Union dropped to 7-3.

"We made changes to the lineup and kids that were on the bench came in and really stepped up big time," Meeks said. "This was a total team win and a huge confidence booster."

Sandifer had only five errors to post a gaudy .444 hitting percentage for the match. McKaidan Moore had 16 kills and Taylin McCarver 11, while Taylor Donato had nine with a .429 hitting percentage.

The Tigers combined for 19 kills with just two errors in the final two sets to post .424 and .448 hitting percentages, respectively.

Kassie Till had 55 assists and 15 digs for the Tigers. Alex Fuelling led UWA in digs with 22, while Sandifer chipped in 16.

Katie O'Malley had 16 kills to lead Union. Bre Carlton had 45 assists.

West Alabama concludes play in the UNA Classic with a pair of games on Saturday. The Tigers play Dillard at 1 p.m. and North Alabama at 7.
