UWA Volleyball Runs Win Streak to Four

FLORENCE, Ala. – The West Alabama volleyball team ran its winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-21, 25-13) over Dillard Saturday in the UNA Classic at Flowers Hall.

West Alabama improved its record to 7-4. Dillard dropped to 9-6. The Tigers finish play in the tournament tonight at 7 p.m. against the hosting North Alabama Lions.

"Dillard is a very scrappy team that tested our attackers and made us find different ways to score our points," UWA coach Alexis Meeks said. "We were able to get everyone in that match and got all of our hitters good quality touches.

"We are still gelling as a team and that's okay," Meeks said. "We are continually getting better and UNA is going to be a tough test for us later today, but is a good way for us to end going into our first conference weekend next weekend."

McKaidan Moore and Briana Sandifer led the Tigers hitting attack with 10 kills apiece and Taylin McCarver chipped in eight more. Kassie Till had 24 assists for the Tigers, followed by Jordyn Beans with 14 as UWA hit .259 for the match.

Taylor Donato, Jaime Lancellot and McCarver patrolled the nets for UWA. Donato and Lancellot had four blocks each, while McCarver added three more. Dillard managed a paltry .029 hitting percentage.

Rebecca Johnson led West Alabama with 17 digs, followed by Alex Fuelling with 11.

After 12 consecutive matches away from home, West Alabama plays at Pruitt Hall Gym for the first time in 2017 against Miles College Tuesday at 6 p.m.
