North Alabama Snaps Tiger Win Streak

FLORENCE, Ala. – In a match that featured the only unbeaten teams in the UNA Volleyball Classic, North Alabama snapped a modest West Alabama four-match winning streak with a 3-1 victory over the Tigers Saturday at Flowers Hall.

North Alabama improved to 10-2 with the win. West Alabama dropped to 7-5. The match did not count in the Gulf South Conference standings.

The Lions won the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-23, before West Alabama rallied to take the third set 25-17. North Alabama put the match away with a 25-18 victory in the fourth.

"Although the outcome wasn't what we would have ultimately wanted it to be, that was the best match we've played this season," UWA head coach Alexis Meeks said. "This team steps up fearlessly to great teams and tonight we showed that we are also a great team."

Briana Sandifer had 17 kills to pace West Alabama's attack. Taylor Donato chipped in 10, while McKaidan Moore and Jaime Lancellot added eight each. Kassie Till had 39 assists and Lancellot four block assists. Rebecca Johnson led the Tigers with 21 digs.

"I could not be more proud of this group. Thinking about what they are capable of gives me goosebumps," Meeks said. "Only having one senior in Bri has been a challenge at times, but she has found a way to lead and show our underclassmen the standard we have in this program, and that has been the most fun to watch."

Jessica Austin, Lexie Bradley and Genny Cruz combined for 43 kills for North Alabama. Jayden DavilaMcClary had 43 assists.

West Alabama is host to Miles College in its 2017 home opener Tuesday at Pruitt Hall Gym. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
