Tigers rally for 62-56 victory over Lee

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama Tigers trailed for 24 minutes, but in clutch time the Tigers rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat the visiting Lee Flames 62-56 Wednesday night in Pruitt Hall in Gulf South Conference Men's basketball action.

With the win, UWA improves to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the GSC. Lee falls to 9-6 and 4-4 in the conference.

"Winning is hard," said Head coach Allen Sharpe. "Winning is hard to do and it doesn't matter what league you're in whether you're in the SEC, the ACC or the Gulf South. The toughest league is the one that you play in."

The Tigers took the lead for good with Charles Eaton draining a jumper with 1:58 left in the game, but the senior guard's biggest shot came with 1:10 on the clock when he buried a three-pointer near midcourt to bring the crowd in Pruitt Hall to its feet and helped UWA extinguish the Flames.

"I'm really proud of the guys," said Sharpe. "We were down a good portion of that game and we really gutted it out down the stretch."

UWA did it with defense, forcing Lee to commit 25 turnovers and Dominique Alexander finished with five blocks but affected even more shots.

Eaton once against led West Alabama in scoring with 24 points and added three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Josh Fleming scored 11 and DeAndre Harper chimed in with 10 points. Alexander led UWA on the boards with 10 rebounds.

Chase Cullen and Michael McGuirk both scored 12 points to lead the Flames.

The Tigers return to action Monday with a road contest against Delta State in Cleveland, Miss. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 and will be broadcast on ESPN 104.9.
