Tigers win streak snapped with loss to UWG, 81-76

CARROLLTON, Ga. – Despite having double-digit leads in early in both halves, the West Alabama Tigers suffered an 81-76 defeat to the West Georgia Wolves which saw a four-game winning streak snapped Thursday night on the road in Gulf South Conference Men's basketball action.
 
UWA falls to 14-6 overall and 8-4 in the conference. UWG improves to 9-10 and 4-8 in the GSC.
 
Charles Eaton led all scorers with 33 points and added five rebounds and two assists. Josh Fleming scored 16 and Trey Petty scored 14 in his third start of the season. Gavin Robinson and Domonique Alexander both finished with double digit rebounds with 11 and 10, respectively.
 
As a team, the Tigers shot 46 percent from the field going 32 of 69 and won the rebounding battled with a 41-39 edge.
 
However, the difference in the game came at the free throw line. West Georgia went 15 of 19, good for 79 percent while UWA shot 4 of 10 for 40 percent at the charity stripe.
 
Marquill Smith led UWG with 21 points and nine rebounds. Paul Turner scored 19, Karlos Odom had 11, while William Sides and Greg James both scored 10 points to give the Wolves five players with double-digit point totals.
 
West Alabama will have a small window to prepare for a trip to the capitol city to face Auburn-Montgomery Saturday afternoon. AUM and UWA met in the finals of the Bahama House Classic on Nov. 25, 2017 where the Tigers claimed a 91-77 victory.
 
Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN 104.9.
