Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tigers muscle past AUM for 107-85 GSC victory, Eaton reaches 1000 career points

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The West Alabama Tigers saw four players reach double-digit points, including a career game from Domonique Alexander, and came away with a 107-85 win to spoil homecoming for the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball action Saturday night.

UWA improves to 15-6 overall and 9-4 in the GSC. AUM falls to 8-12 overall and 4-9 in the conference.

"Way too many points to give up, but don't get me wrong I am tickled to death to win a basketball game," said Head coach Allen Sharpe. "AUM has good players and the style in which they play puts pressure on your defense. They have four guards out there and they can all shoot the basketball. They're hard to guard. We did enough to keep them away from us."

Alexander finished with 22 points, going 8 of 12 from the free throw line and 7 of 8 from the field. The New Orleans, La. native added nine rebounds, two blocks and an assist.  Jake Jobling scored 17 with the aid from 4 of 9 shooting from behind the arc. DeAndre Harper scored 15 and grabbed seven rebounds. Gavin Robinson has 11 rebounds along with eight points.

"We need that. It's good for us to see other guys can make plays for us too," said Sharpe. "We don't want to be so reliant on Chuck (Eaton) to make plays for us. It was a really big game for Dom. He'll be telling his grandkids about his game against AUM tonight."

Eaton led all scorers with 28 points and added nine assists, four rebounds and two steals. With his first free throw of the game, the Selma, Ala. native crossed the 1000-point for his UWA career.

"I'm thankful that Charles Eaton is in school, has a chance to get an education and finish out his eligibility," said Sharpe. "He's a very talented basketball player. He deserves an opportunity to be in college and have a chance to do this. I'm glad he's doing this and that he appreciates it. If he doesn't now, I know he will one day."

Kenneth Keith and Desmond DeRamus both scored 20 points to lead AUM in scoring.

West Alabama will have a week off to prepare for a rematch with the Montevallo Falcons. A team the Tigers beat 83-70 back on Jan. 4.

"We know from this year, you have to line up to play," said Sharpe. "Look at our loss to Shorter and look at the loss to West Georgia. We have a couple of bad losses and know we have to play our best every night. We have room for improvement and we have to keep pushing them."

Tipoff for the road game in Montevallo is set for 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 104.9
