Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tigers survive tough OT battle with UM, 82-77

MONTEVALLO, Ala.Jake Jobling hit a three-pointer to tie the game with 13 seconds to force overtime, and from that point the West Alabama Tigers did what was needed to come away with an 82-77 victory in Trustmark Arena over the Montevallo Falcons Saturday night in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball action.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 16-6 overall and 10-4 in GSC play. UM falls to 13-10 on the season and 8-6 in the conference.

"I felt like we didn't really play our best game. We felt out of sync at times and their zone defense at the end of the first half gave us some trouble," said Head Coach Allen Sharpe. "We made some big plays down the stretch with Jake making the three to send us to overtime is remarkable and great execution coming out of the timeout to run that and make the shot. We did enough to win. When you go on the road and get a conference win, it's a big deal."

Jobling's game extending shot was part of a 15-point effort for the junior guard. Charles Eaton led UWA with 18 points and added five assists and four rebounds. Josh Fleming scored 15 and Gavin Robinson notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

As a unit, West Alabama shot and made a season high of three-pointers, going 15 of 34 from behind the arc.

"It's good going down the home stretch with other guys scoring seeing the ball going down the hole is big, not just for the individual who made the shot but also for everybody," said Sharpe.

The Tiger defense clamped down in overtime to leave the Falcons 0 of 6 from the field in the five-minute period.

Chris Williams finished with 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists to lead Montevallo. Jeremiah Curtis added 14 points, Deshawn Jones scored 11 and Zach Jackson scored 10.

UWA wraps this four-game road trip Monday night against the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 on Kelly Court in Spragins Hall and the game will be broadcast on ESPN 104.9
