Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eaton pours in 34 in 83-70 win over GSC foe Montevallo

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – For the fifth time this season, Charles Eaton turned in a 30-plus point performance. This time his 34 points led the West Alabama Tigers to an 83-70 win over the Montevallo Falcons Thursday night in Pruitt Hall in Gulf South Conference Men's basketball action.

UWA improves to 10-4 on the season and 4-2 in the GSC. Montevallo falls to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Eaton's impressive performance comes from a 12 of 20 effort from the field and 6 of 9 from the free throw line. The senior guard from Selma, Ala. also dished four assists.

"He's got to do it. We told him that he messed himself up, because you have to go do it every night," said Head coach Allen Sharpe. "After you do it for an extended amount of games, it becomes a part of your team and who you are and Charles Eaton is a guy on our team that has to get 25 or 30 points a night if we going to have a crack to win and he knows it."

The win ended a two-game slide for the Tigers who dropped to conference contests on the road to West Florida and Valdosta State heading into the holiday break in December.

"I thought we had a good four or five days of practice and came out tonight and executed a good game plan," said Sharpe. "Things were kind of blah with school still being out and never really got any separation until later on."

Four other Tigers scored in double digits as Gavin Robinson and Domonique Alexander both notched a double-doubles with Robinson going for 11 points and 13 rebounds and Alexander finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. DeAndre Harper scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds and Josh Fleming chimed in with 10 points.

Alexander also made his presence felt defensively as the 6-foot-7 native of New Orleans blocked three shots and made three steals to lead UWA in both categories.

As a team, the Tigers shot 53.6 percent from the field hitting 30 of 56 shots and led for 33 minutes of game time.

Jamaar Taylor led Montevallo with 29 points and Jeremiah Curtis tallied a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Next up for UWA is a home game against the Shorter Hawks in Pruitt Hall. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will broadcast on ESPN 104.9 and on uwaathletics.com.
