Dozen Tigers Score in 92-63 Win over Montevallo

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Twelve West Alabama players scored as the Tigers cruised to a 92-63 Gulf South Conference women's basketball victory over Montevallo Thursday at Pruitt Hall Gym.

The Tigers improved to 6-7, 3-3 in the GSC, while handing head coach Rusty Cram his 300th collegiate coaching victory. Montevallo lost for the eighth consecutive game, dropping to 2-11 and 0-5.

West Alabama controlled the game from start to finish, shooting 54 percent from the floor and making 18-of-21 free throw attempts. The Tigers led for all but 50 seconds of the game.

"I am pleased with a lot of areas, but there are still things we need to work on," Cram said. "We won all four quarters and our confidence is continuing to grow. I am proud of that."

West Alabama led 46-28 at the half and by as many as 32 points with 5:07 left to play. The Tigers bench scored 49 points, while UWA picked up five charging fouls and blocked five shots.

"We came back from the break and challenged all of them to be good at everything we do," Cram said. "We told them that the difference comes in good, quality depth.

"This is a team that likes each other and is playing for each other," Cram said. "I enjoy coaching that aspect of it."

Peyton Parker and Kim Parrish scored 15 points each to lead West Alabama. Elaine Field chipped in 12 and Marianne Ward 11. Ward's eight rebounds led the Tigers. Sydney Bozeman blocked four shots.

Jomekia Morine scored 18 for Montevallo to lead all scorers. Cheyenne Cunningham added 15 and Kassidy Bonebreak 10 for the Falcons. Paige Ward collected six rebounds.

West Alabama continues a three-game homestand by hosting Shorter Saturday at 2 p.m. Montevallo is host to Lee on Saturday.
