Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

UWA Drops Road Contest to #10 Lander, 1-0

GREENWOOD, S.C.– The West Alabama Tigers tried hard but could not pull off the upset of the No. 10 Lander Bearcats, falling 1-0 in the non-conference matchup of Men's Soccer Programs both in the South Region Monday evening.

UWA now sits at 4-4-1 on the season while Lander stays unbeaten at 8-0-1.

"Another tight game with one of best the nation," said Head coach Matthew Thorne. "Unfortunately, not the result we wanted. Games with the best teams in the nation it's a matter of taking your few chances you get. Lander are a quality side and took their chance well. This is the toughest out of conference schedule we have ever played in our program's history. One reason for this is to get us ready for the GSC games we have ahead."

The Bearcats outshot UWA 16 to 4 with seven of Lander's shots being on goal and three SOGs registered for the Tigers.

The lone goal in the contest came at the 64:45 mark when Thibault Chretien hit his first of the year on an assist from Jaime North.

Both teams were equally aggressive with both squads called for 14 fouls each.

West Alabama returns to Gulf South Conference action Friday night with a match against Auburn-Montgomery in Tiger Stadium. The match in Livingston, Ala. is scheduled to start at 7:30 with links to live stats and Tiger Vision available on uwaathletics.com.
