Tigers Win Five Set Battle with MC

CLINTON, Miss.– The West Alabama Tigers battled the Mississippi College Choctaws, who did not want to lose in the home match and came away with a five-set victory Tuesday night in Gulf South Conference Volleyball action.

UWA improves to 13-5 overall and 6-2 in the GSC. MC falls to 7-12 on the season and 1-7 in the conference.

"So incredibly proud of our group tonight! Mississippi College played scrappy and aggressive and made us make a lot of adjustments, but our girls stayed level headed the entire match and didn't let our errors or their game play affect what we were trying to accomplish," said Head coach Alexis Meeks. "We are focusing right now on progressing in our play each day and getting two percent better in certain areas of our game. This is a long season. Opponents get better, matches get tougher, we just have to stick to our game plans and run our offense the best we can and let the results take care of themselves. We still have so much growth and that's the exciting part with this group."

Madison Cooler grabbed herself a double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs. Jessica Akiona also registered a double-digits in two stats with 11 kills and 14 digs and added a team leading six service aces. Taylor Donato added 13 kills and Jaime Lancellot had 12 kills to go along with a team leading four blocks.

Kassie Till kept the offence moving with 49 assists on the evening. The conference leader in assists is now up to 673 on the season and averaging 10.20 assists per set.

Alex Fuelling led all players in the match with 23 digs.
