Tigers Split Pair of Matches on Second Day of South Region Crossover

ORLANDO, Fla.– The West Alabama Volleyball team spilt a pair of matches today to wrap up the final day of the Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference South Region Crossover Saturday with a win over Lynn University and loss to Barry University in the Orlando Sports Complex.
 
The first match of the day saw The Tigers take a four-set victory over the Lynn Fighting Knights.
 
UWA lost the first set 22-25 before winning the second set 25-23, the third set 27-25 and the fourth set 25-17.
 
Both Jessica Akiona and Taylor Donato registered double-doubles as Akiona finished with 16 kills and 18 digs while Donato amassed 15 kills and 19 digs. 
 
Jaime Lancellot tied for the team lead in kills with 16 while adding three blocks. Kassie Till passed 52 assists while adding three kills, six digs and two blocks.
 
The evening match did not go the way of UWA as the Tigers fell in straight sets to the #25 Barry Buccaneers. 
 
Barry won the first set 25-19, the second set 25-19 and the third set 25-15.
 
Despite the offense not moving as smoothly, Till finished the match with 23 assists to along with three kills, two service aces and three digs.
 
Akiona led with nine kills and added eight digs defensively. Donato posted eight kills and tied for the team lead with 14 digs alongside Alex Fuelling
 
West Alabama is now 18-7 on the season after the weekend and will return to GSC action on Oct. 26 against West Florida down in Pensacola, Florida. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start time.
