Golden Goal Lifts Tigers over Falcons

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama Tigers defeated the Montevallo Falcons by way of the golden goal to grab a Gulf South Conference Men's Soccer victory Sunday night in Tiger Stadium.

"Lads showed great character to go into overtime for a second time and we finished our chance in the end," said Head coach Matthew Thorne. "The GSC is one of the toughest conferences in the nation and anytime you get a big win it's always positive."

UWA improves 5-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the GSC. Montevallo falls to 2-9 and 1-4 in the conference.

The winning goal came off the foot of Ali Brador, his seventh goal of the season, with an assist from Kyle McLeod in the first extra time period at the 94:12 mark in the contest.

The Tigers outshot Montevallo 21-15 and outpaced the Falcons with nine shots on goal compared to seven for the visitors.

Austin Salazar finished the contest with seven saves.

West Alabama will head to the Gulf Coast for the weekend starting with a trip to West Florida in Pensacola in a GSC match. That contest is slated to start at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 12.
