Men’s Basketball Prepares for GSC Home Opener Against MC

LIVINGSTON, Ala.– After starting Gulf South Conference play over in the Delta, the West Alabama Men's Basketball team are set to host the Mississippi College Choctaws in the first conference game of the season in Pruitt Hall Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
 
The Tigers enter the weekend contest 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the GSC coming off a 62-54 win over Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi. The Choctaws also won their conference opener by overcoming a 17-point second half deficit in a home win over Montevallo.
 
UWA claimed both matchups last year against MC with an 86-60 win in Clinton, Mississippi on Dec. 6, 2017 and an 87-64 win on Feb. 10 in Livingston.
 
Josh Fleming serves as the leading scorer for UWA. The senior guard has averaged 12.7 points a contest and 4.0 boards in three games this season. Ricky Dunnaway and DeAndre Harper are both averaging 8.6 points per game with Harper pulling down 7.0 rebounds and Dunnaway averaging 6.8 boards. LaJuan Hardy is fourth in the GSC in assists and leads the team with 5.2 assists per game.
 
Donovan Ham leads the Choctaws in scoring at 16.7 points per game, while Brandon Boston leads the team with 7.8 rebounds per contest and averaging 14.4 points a game. Dyllan Taylor runs the offense averaging 5.6 assists a game, which is third best in the conference.
