UWA Holds off Paine College for 69-61 Road Victory

AUGUSTA, Ga.– The Paine College Lions refused to go away quietly, but the West Alabama Tigers found a way to secure a 69-61 road victory Tuesday night in women's basketball action in the HEAL Complex.
 
UWA improved to 4-5 overall with the win while Paine College remained winless and are now 0-9 on the season.
 
"Happy for the win. Not our best effort, but it goes in the "W" column," said Head coach Rusty Cram. "Saw some good things, but have some areas we have to get better in. Again, that's two in a row leading into a big weekend."
 
Four Tigers scored in double figures on the evening led by 13 points and six rebounds from Chloe CulpepperJala Williams finished with 12 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field with and 100 percent effort from the free throw line as well. Elaine Field scored 10 points and added five rebounds while Bria Dent also scored 10 points with three rebounds.
 
UWA led 33-24 at the half and started the game on a 12-0 run. The Tigers barely edged out the Lions in the second half in points 36-35 and came away with the 69-61 final for the road win.
 
West Alabama beat out Paine on the boards 43-35 and won in the paint 32-30 as well.
 
Four Lions scored in double figures led by 14 points for Akirah Robinson. Keondra Archie scored 12 points along with 12 rebounds while Camille Cunningham and Kiera Wright both scored 10 points.
 
UWA returns to action Saturday against Gulf South Conference opponent Shorter in Livingston, Alabama. Tip off in Pruitt Hall is set for 2 p.m. with the game being broadcast locally on ESPN 104.9 and across the world on www.grantellbroadcasting.com.
