Men's Hoops Host Shorter for GSC Contest

LIVINGSTON, Ala. –The West Alabama Tigers spent a couple of games out of Gulf South Conference, but that changes Saturday when the Shorter Hawks come to Livingston for Men's Basketball action. Tip-off for the matchup is set for 4 p.m. in Pruitt Hall. 
 
UWA sits at 6-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play and are riding a six-game winning streak after claiming an 85-61 home victory over Paine College Tuesday night. Shorter sits 2-6 on the season and 0-2 in the GSC after suffering a 75-36 loss to the Lee Flames Wednesday night.
 
The Hawks average a devilish 66.6 points per game as a unit and are led by four double-digit scorers. TayVaughn Major scored 12 points is his debut against Lee and is the leading scorer. Joe Russell averages 11.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals; Matous Kaihc is 11.3 points and the leading rebounder at 5.0 boards a game and Jacob Newman is scoring 10 points a game.
 
West Alabama brings in the stingiest defense in the conference and only allow 63 points a game. The Tigers offense scores 66.3 points per game and is led by Ricky Dunnaway, who averages 12.6 points and 6.8 rebounds a contest, and Josh Fleming who is averaging 10.8 points per game. DeAndre Harper is the leading rebounder at 6.9 boards per game and LaJuan Hardy leads the team and is fourth in the conference at five assists a game.
