Wolves Snap Tiger Streak, Grab 60-49 GSC Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala.– The West Georgia Wolves jumped to a 14-point halftime lead and held back the West Alabama Tigers at every turn to snap UWA's seven game win streak with a 60-49 road win in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium Monday night in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball action.

The Tigers see a seven-game win streak end and fall to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in conference. UWG improves to 7-4 on the season and 3-1 in the GSC.

West Georgia built a 36-22 lead at the half, but UWA won the second half 27-24. However, it wasn't enough as the Wolves won 60-49.

The game featured plenty of whistles as the teams combined for a GSC-record 52 personal fouls with UWG committing 28 and the Tigers having 24. Four players between the two teams fouled out.

Josh Fleming and Trey Petty both scored 10 points each to lead UWA with Petty also leading in rebounding with eight boards for the Tigers.

Marquil Smith, the leading scorer in the conference, poured in 32 points to lead all scorers and grabbed 10 rebounds.

UWA will take a small break and return to action on Dec. 30 in a nonconference matchup against Reinhardt. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
