Tiger Win Streak Snapped at Five with 75-73 Loss to Union

JACKSON, Tenn. – The West Alabama Tigers could never put the scrappy Union Bulldogs away and in the end saw a five-game winning streak snapped by the score of 75-73 Wednesday night in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball action.

UWA falls to 19-7 overall and 13-5 in the GSC. Union's win keeps their GSC Championship Tournament hopes alive and improves the Bulldogs to 12-14 overall and 6-12 in the conference.

"We didn't guard, we didn't finish the first half very well and we had an awful start to the second half," said Head coach Allen Sharpe. "I mean we fought and battled, got back in it and had the lead, but we just didn't guard."

Union hit a three-pointer to close the first half and then opened the second half with five straight points.

Domonique Alexander notched his fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. However, Charles Eaton led a quartet of Tigers in double-digit points with 18 followed by 17 points from Gavin Robinson and Josh Fleming's 15 points.

This UWA loss is the first of its kind where the Tigers had four players score in double figures and come up short.

Union's Tyree Boykin turned in his best performance of his collegiate career as the freshman went off for 32 points to lead all scorers.

"Most of the time if we hold a team 55, 60 or 70 we'll win that ball game. The score just got too high," said Sharpe. "Man (Boykin) for them made some good shots. We dropped the ball and didn't get it done. We have two games left, so we'll see what happens."

The first of those two games comes Saturday afternoon as UWA hosts West Georgia in the final home game of the regular season in Pruitt Hall, so the game will serve as senior day for six members of the program. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 104.9 with a live stream and stats available on uwaathletics.com.
