Tigers Split Doubleheader at Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – West Alabama outdueled Saint Leo in a high-scoring affair in game one, only to have the Lions win a pitcher's duel in game two as the Tigers and Lions split a double header Saturday at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
 
West Alabama won the opener, 10-7, and Saint Leo took the nightcap, 2-1.
 
The split leaves West Alabama with a 2-6 record. Saint Leo is 5-2. The rubber game of the series is set for Sunday at 11 a.m. CST.
 
Joel Murphy went 3-for-5 in the first game for West Alabama, driving in two runs. Ben Dalke also drove in a pair of runs with his second home run of the season. Brock Montgomery chipped in a pair of hits in game one. Dominique Dawson and Ryan Hughes each had two hits for the Tigers in game two.
 
Zack Scott was 3-for-5 in game one and finished the doubleheader with four hits for Saint Leo. Brett Coffel was 3-for-5 in the opener, including his first homer of the season. He finished the day with four hits. Derek Gibree was 2-for-4 in game one.
 
Reliever Christian Griffin (1-0) picked up the game-one win for West Alabama and Nick Rathke earned his first save as a Tiger. Saint Leo reliever Oscar Gordillo (1-1) took the loss. Griffin worked two shutout innings, allowing a hit while walking three and striking out three. Gordillo allowed five runs on four hits over 2.1 innings.
 
Tyler Bauman (1-0) allowed one run and struck out 11 to earn the win in game two. Peyton Isaacson struck out the side in the ninth for his fourth save. West Alabama starter Steffon Moore (1-2) absorbed the loss, allowing two runs on two hits over four innings. Moore struck out 10 and walked six.
