Tigers storm back late to defeat UAH, 82-70

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Down 40-28 with just over 17 minutes left in the game, the West Alabama Tigers caught fire and roared back to take an 82-70 victory over the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on Kelly Court in Spragins Hall Monday night in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball action.
 
With the win, UWA improves to 17-6 overall and 11-4 in the GSC. UAH falls to 14-10 and 7-9 in the conference.
 
The Tigers were able to stall the hot start of the Chargers, who hit seven three-pointers in the first half, by limiting the home team to just one made shot from behind the arc in the second half.
 
Josh Fleming had himself a ball game with 27 points, going 10 of 10 from the free throw line. Charles Eaton scored 14 of his 22 points in the second half to go along with six rebounds. Gavin Robinson notched another double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Domonique Alexander grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked two shots.
 
As a unit, West Alabama was 19 of 23 from the charity stripe which was good for 82.6 percent.
 
Justin Ward led UAH with 18 points while Kip Ownes 15, Seth Swalve got a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists and Chayse Elliot scored 11.
 
UWA returns to Pruitt Hall Thursday night against Delta State. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Livingston. The Tigers won their Jan. 15 meeting with the Statesmen 66-65 in Cleveland, Miss.
