West Georgia Remains Unbeaten After Sweeping Tigers

CARROLLTON, Ga. – West Georgia remained unbeaten two weeks into the 2018 college baseball season by sweeping a college baseball doubleheader from West Alabama, 4-3 and 4-1, Friday at Cole Field.

A three-game series sweep of the Tigers leaves West Georgia at 7-0. West Alabama has lost three straight and falls to 1-5.

After a two-run home run by Ben Dalke in the top of the first inning, West Alabama added a single run in the second to take a 3-0 lead in game one. West Georgia scored a single run in the sixth and then pushed across three runs in the eighth to secure the come-from-behind win.

Andrew Marshall (2-0) earned the win in game one in relief of UWG starter Greyson McLeod. Marshall worked an inning, allowing one hit. UWA reliever Carlos Amador (0-2) took the loss, allowing three hits and three runs in one inning of work.

West Georgia jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game two, scoring a run without the aid of a hit. The Wolves added another run in the fifth, taking advantage of one hit, a Tiger error, four wild pitches and a hit batter, all with two outs.

The Wolves closed out the scoring by plating two runs in the sixth, again without the aid of a base hit.

West Alabama's lone run in the second game came in the third inning when Brock Montgomery singled and eventually scored on a UWG throwing error.
