Tigers Drop two in First Day of Bellarmine Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – It wasn't the ideal start for the West Alabama Volleyball team at the Bellarmine Kickoff Classic as the Tigers dropped two contests on the opening day of the tournament Friday.
 
UWA falls to 1-2 after the day's contests. 
 
In the morning match, the Tigers fell in straight sets to Davenport University (25-16, 25-19, 25-20).
 
Jaime Lancellot led the attack with nine kills while Kassie Till piled up 26 assists. Defensively, Rebecca Johnson reached double digit digs with 11 in the match to lead the Tigers. Bret Luther totaled three blocks while Jessica Akiona and Taylor Donato both had two blocks.
 
The Tiger attack as a unit wasn't as sharp as last weekend as UWA posted a .144 attack percentage compared to a .369 percentage for Davenport.
 
Match two of the day saw West Alabama take on the host Bellarmine University in a losing effort in straight sets to the Knights (25-10, 25-16, 25-22). 
 
Akiona and Donato tied for the team lead with eight kills each followed by Madison Cooler with five kills. Till continued to be a solid offensive cog with 23 assists. Johnson finished with 10 digs while Luther totaled four blocks. 
 
UWA has two games tomorrow in the second day of the tournament as the Tigers take on California University of Pennsylvania at 10:30 a.m. and West Virginia Wesleyan at 3:30 p.m. Links to live video and live stats are available at uwaathletics.com.
