Tigers Stay Unbeaten at Home, Handle AUM 3-0

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama overcame a sluggish starts to stay unbeaten at home and in Gulf South Conference play with a 3-0 GSC volleyball victory over Auburn-Montgomery Friday at Pruitt Hall Gym.
 
The Tigers won the first set 25-17, the second 25-20 and the third set 25-21.
 
UWA improves to 8-3 overall, 2-0 in league play. AUM dips 8-4 and 0-2. West Alabama will be looking to extend both its early-season home and conference win streaks when the Tigers host West Florida (9-4, 1-1) Sunday at 3 p.m.
 
"We have to do a better job at starting faster," UWA head coach Alexis Meeks said. "We have been phenomenal at finishing, but getting started has been a season-long problem."
 
Tiger setter Kassie Till dished out 29 assists while ensuring all her hitters were evenly distributed to. Three UWA hitters had at least 20 attacks, led by Taylor Donato with 26.

Jaime Lancellot and Jessica Akiona both had nine kills to pace the Tiger attack. Madison Cooler and Donato both chipped in eight kills as the Tigers finished with a .279 attack percentage. UWA had 23 more attacks than AUM.
 
"Kassie is doing a good job distributing the ball in our offense," Meeks said. "When all five hitters are over 12 attacks that is awesome, but we still have things to clean up before Sunday."
 
Rebecca Johnson recorded 12 digs for UWA, while Till had five service aces. Lacellot chipped in a pair of blocks, one solo.
 
Brianna Garvin and Sommer Rhea led AUM with five kills each. The Warhawks' hitting percentage was a meager .123. Sommer had 10 digs.
