No. 10 West Florida Downs UWA Volleyball, 3-1

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Florida came back from a set down to earn a 3-1 Gulf South Conference volleyball victory over West Alabama Sunday at Pruitt Hall.
 
West Alabama hung on to win the first set, 25-23, but the 10th-ranked Argos took the next three by 25-19, 25-19 and 25-22 margins. UWA led 23-15 before holding off a late set-one UWF charge.
 
West Florida improved to 10-4 overall, 2-1 in GSC play. West Alabama is 8-4 and 2-1 after losing for the first time at home this season.
 
The Argos controlled the nets, posting a .336 attack percentage to .179 for West Alabama. UWF recorded four solo blocks and 22 block assists opposite just one block solo and four block assists for UWA. Caleigh Morrison had a solo bock and six block assists for the Argos.
 
Jessica Akiona had 11 kills and Jaime Lancellot 10 to lead West Alabama's attack. Lancellot posted a .409 attack percentage, while 10 attack errors left Akiona's at .036.
 
Kassie Till had 41 assists for UWA and posted five of her seven kills in the third set. Rebecca Johnson recorded 14 digs, eight in the first set.
 
Jordyn Poppen and Nadine Williams both had 13 kills to pace West Florida. Makenzie Chrisman had 11 kills in 14 total attacks for a blazing .714 hitting percentage.  
 
There were 12 lead changes in the match, sixth in fourth set alone. The score was tied 23 times, nine times in the final set.
 
The Tigers conclude a four-match homestand by hosting Christian Brothers Thursday at 6 p.m. West Florida returns home to host West Georgia on Friday.
