Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Tigers Split on Final Day of USC-Aiken Invitational

Aiken, S.C.– The West Alabama Volleyball team had a similar day to yesterday with a sweep in the first match and a five-set thriller in the second one. However, this time the Tigers split the two contests to wrap the USC-Aiken Invitational Saturday evening.

"Overall as a coaching staff we are satisfied with our performance today. It is always heartbreaking when you go up 2-0 and lose in five, but this was a great learning experience for our team," said Head coach Alexis Meeks. "We have a lot to work on before three big conference matches this week because a lot of the reason we struggled at times this weekend was due to our own errors. We have to do a better job of forcing teams to beat us instead of beating ourselves. However, we had a great win this morning and we are very proud of their performance and are eager to start conference at home on Tuesday."

UWA (25-21, 25-18, 25-17) won the morning match over Catawba College.

Madison Cooler led the way with 14 kills and three services aces. Kassie Till finished with 27 assists.

Defensively, Bret Luther led with three blocks while Alex Fuelling collected 17 digs, Rebecca Johnson made 14 digs and Till had 11.

The Tigers put up some spectacular numbers in match two, but fell to Augusta University (21-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-8) after dropping three straight sets.

Cooler posted her highest total in kills at UWA so far with 21 while Taylor Donato added 18 kills and Jaime Lancellot had 10 to go along with a team leading three service aces. Till tied her career high with 55 assists during the match.

Fuelling led with 27 digs while Jessica Akiona posted 16 and Johnson had 14.

West Alabama returns to the court Tuesday in Gulf South Conference action with Mississippi College coming to Pruitt Hall. Start time is set for 6 p.m. in Livingston, Ala. Links to live stats and Tiger Vision Live Video are available on uwaathletics.com.
