Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lytle Leads Lady Bucs Past UWA

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Brynne Lytle poured in 34 points to lead Christian Brothers to a 77-63 women's basketball victory over West Alabama Thursday at Pruitt Hall Gym.

The loss dropped West Alabama to 7-7 overall, 4-3 in the Gulf South Conference. CBU snapped a three-game losing skid to improve to 5-7 and 2-5.

"It was a tough night," UWA head coach Rusty Cram said. "I was disappointed with our lack of focus on the game plan."

Lytle made six three-pointers and converted 11-of-20 from the floor while collecting three rebounds and four steals. McKenzie Jones chipped in 14 and Makayla Enochs 10 for the Lady Bucs.

Christian Brothers led 35-34 at the half, thanks largely to making 7-of-14 from beyond the three-point arc, while UWA managed just one three in 10 attempts. The Tigers were just 2-of-17 from long range for the game.

True freshman Bria Dent recorded her first collegiate double-double for UWA, scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She converted 8-of-11 from the floor and complimented that with three assists and four steals.

"Bria just goes and finds it," Cram said. "She reminds me a lot of Tazsa (Garrett-Hammett) last year when she was the conference freshman of the year. She is a special player who continues to get better and better."

Garrett-Hammett was one of four Tigers who did not play for UWA due to injury, but Cram refused to lay the loss on their absence.

"It's frustrating. There is no rhyme or reason," Cram said. "Four of the five players who got us to the final four of the conference tournament last year were on the bench in street clothes. Bria (Dent) and Tan (Walker) took advantage of their chances with them out."

Even down three post players to injury, the Tigers still managed to double up CBU in the paint, outscoring the Lady Bucs 44-24. Christian Brothers scored 31 points off 22 West Alabama turnovers.

Latangellia Walker chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers. J'Nyiah Daniels had five assists.

Christian Brothers led for 30:39 of the game and the game was tied 11 times. The lead changed hands eight times.

West Alabama remains at home on Saturday, hosting No. 8 Union (14-1). Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CBU remains on the road at Montevallo.
