Auburn Coach Butch Thompson Keynote Speaker at Grand Slam Dinner

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Auburn head baseball coach Butch Thompson will be the keynote speaker at the 2019 University of West Alabama Grand Slam Dinner. The annual dinner signals the beginning of a new Tiger baseball season.
 
The annual event is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Bell Conference Center on the UWA campus. Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for children 12-and-under, and can be purchased by contacting Penny Dew at 205 652-3784 or by emailing your ticket request to rrundles@uwa.edu. Reservations are preferred.
 
UWA baseball souvenirs will be available, as well as opportunities to meet and interact with Tiger baseball players and coaches.

Thompson enters his fourth season at Auburn in 2019. He spent three seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Auburn from 2006-08 and returned to Auburn after seven seasons at Mississippi State as both associate head coach and pitching coach.
 
From Aberdeen, Mississippi, Thompson played collegiately at Birmingham-Southern and Itawamba (Miss.) Community College. In addition to Mississippi State, other coaching stops include Georgia, BSC, Huntingdon and Jefferson State Community College.
 
Thompson's is 103-82 at Auburn, 142-94 as a head coach. He has been a part of one national championship, seven College World Series and 16 collegiate postseasons.
 
He has mentored eight Major League Baseball pitchers since 2014 with 29 pitchers drafted that went undrafted out of high school. Thirty-eight all-conference selections have played for Thompson and he has authored 11 top 10 recruiting classes.
 
Thompson and his wife Robin are the parents of daughters Anna, Olivia and Madelyn Gail.
