Hardy Hush: Three-pointer at the Buzzer Gives Tigers 70-68 Win

CLEVELAND, Tenn.LaJuan Hardy drained a three-pointer as time expired to leave the crowd in the Paul Dana Walker Arena stunned and give the West Alabama Tigers a 70-68 victory over the hosting Lee Flames Saturday evening in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball action.

UWA is now riding a three-game winning streak and improves to 12-5 overall and 7-3 in the GSC. Lee falls to 10-8 and 7-3 in the conference.

"You have to line up and play, be in every possession and treat every possession like it's the end of the game. Because you don't know which one the difference between a win and a loss will be," said Head coach Allen Sharpe. "What a gutsy win. We've had a couple of heartbreakers go against us. Maybe it all comes back around, and it has in the last few games."

Hardy lead the way with 27 points including a 5-of-7 effort from behind the arc to go along with four rebounds and three assists. The buzzer beater was his second game winner in as many games as the junior guard made a spectacular layup with 10.4 seconds left to beat Alabama-Huntsville Thursday night.

"Sometimes it takes transfer players some time to find their shots and find their fit in what we do," said Sharpe. "Hardy has come on lately and found his spot and is making big plays for us."

Deandre Harper added 14 points, five rebounds and three steals while Ricky Dunnaway scored 12 points

The Tigers dominated in the paint and outscored the Flames 42-28 down low.

Colton Blevins led Lee with 23 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Montgomery added 18 points and Micheal McGuirk scored 13 points.

West Alabama returns to work on Jan. 24 in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium against West Florida. Tip-off in the GSC contest is set for 7:30 p.m. Livingston and will be broadcast on ESPN 104.9 as well as on uwaathletics.com.
