Catching Fire: Hot Shooting Lead Tigers to Victory over Argos

LIVINGSTON, Ala.— The West Alabama Tigers made it rain from the three-point line with a season high 16 buckets from the behind the arc on the way to a 70-56 victory over the West Florida Argonauts Thursday night in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball action in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.

UWA pushes the win streak to four while improving the season record to 13-5 and the GSC mark to 8-3. The win also puts the Tigers atop the GSC standings. UWF falls to 7-12 and 3-8 in the conference.

As a unit, UWA shot 48.5 percent (16-of-33) from the three-point line.

"We can't make 16 threes in two games and we made them here tonight," said Head coach Allen Sharpe. "It's contagious. Making (shots) is contagious and missing is contagious. If a guy makes one or two, it just kind of spreads and snowballs in a good way. It just makes everything so much easier when you make shots. It takes so much more pressure off of the defense and having to grind and get a stop every time because you can't score."

LaJuan Hardy had another hot shooting night for the team. The guard finished with 24 points, a team leading 13 rebounds and five assists while going 9-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-10 from behind the arc.

"He's playing really well the last few games," said Sharpe. "We could be really really good based on him. That point guard position is so important. We've developed some trust and the least is a little longer now. He can make some plays he didn't make earlier in the year and he can turn the ball over and not get yanked out unlike earlier in the year."

Jake Jobling also finished in double digits with a season high 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from behind the arc.

"He deserves it. It's not even close with the amount of time he puts in," said Sharpe about Jobling. "He's in here in on his own getting up shots. He deserves every shot that goes in and I'm really glad he was able to get it going tonight."

Jobling has 151 career made three-pointers which places him in fourth place all-time in UWA history in the category.

The Tigers return to action Saturday against the Montevallo Falcons who earned a 67-65 victory over Valdosta State at home tonight. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. in Pruitt Hall Gym.
