Heartbreak in Valdosta: Blazers Rally for Buzzer Beater Win over Tigers

VALDOSTA, Ga.— The West Alabama Tigers lead by 18-points at the half and lead for 35 minutes in the game, but Beau Justice hit a three-point shot as time expired to give the No.9 Valdosta State Blazers a 78-75 win Saturday night in Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball action. 
 
UWA falls to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the GSC. VSU improves to 12-2 and 5-1 in the conference.
 
The Tigers used stifling defense to take a 39-21 lead to the half, limiting the Blazers to 24.2 percent shooting from the field. However, Valdosta State found its groove in the second half and outpaced the Tigers 57-36 on the way to the 78-75 final score.
 
Josh Fleming led four double-digit scorers on the night for the Tigers with 19 points and added three steals. Darron Johnson scored 15, LaJuan Hardy added 14 points and eight assists while Tyrus Grayson scored 12 points. DeAndre Harper was the leading rebounder with eight boards to go along with nine points.
 
Clay Guillozet attained a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. VSU's hero Beau Justice added 18 points (16 in the second half) and Bryce Smith scored 12 points.
 
UWA will face Auburn-Montgomery (5-8, 1-4) for some Monday night GSC hoops action on Jan. 7. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN 104.9 with a link to live stats available on uwaathletics.com.
