Men’s Soccer Falls on Road to Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – It's a tough start to the road trip going against rainy weather and dropping temperatures and the University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team didn't respond well and dropped a 2-0 Gulf South Conference contest to the Montevallo Falcons Friday night at Georgine Lemak Soccer Field.
 
UWA falls to 3-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference. Montevallo improves to 5-4-1 on the season and 3-1-0 in the GSC.
 
Dairai Mahachi scored first for Montevallo at the 38:30 mark on an assist from Daniel Muyambi. Then in the second half, Vladik Margolin found the back of the net with an assist from Ruben Carvalho at the 59:04 to round the scoring and secure a 2-0 win for the Falcons.
 
The Tigers outshot Montevallo 17-15, but the home Falcons had more shots on goal and out dueled UWA 7-3 in the statistical category.
 
Kyle McLeod led with seven shots, one on goal. Vince Stans and Adam Zayed both took four shots.
 
Seven yellow cards and 28 total fouls were called in the aggressive matchup as the Falcons were called for 15 infractions and the Tigers were called for 13 fouls.
 
William Blake (0-2-0) finished with five saves.
 
West Alabama returns to action Sunday against Auburn Montgomery. Match is set for a 5:30 p.m. start. Game links are available on uwaathletics.com.
