Tigers and Warhawks Battle to Tie

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a battle between two programs trying to find new identities after coaching changes, the University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team and the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks finished regulation and two overtime periods in a 1-1 tie Sunday night in Gulf South Conference action at the AUM Soccer Complex.
 
UWA moves to 3-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the GSC while AUM now sits at 6-3-2 on the season and 3-0-2 in the conference off a second consecutive tie in a league match.
 
Andrew Elks scored the first goal early at the 8:49 mark thanks to an assist from Tate Dean.
 
The West Alabama equalizer came off the foot of Vince Stans thanks to an assist from Adam Zayed after nearly 83 minutes of action to force overtime. From there neither team scored which led to the 1-1 tie.
 
AUM barely outshot UWA 21-20, however the Tigers had more shots on goal winning the category 8-3. Maxime Correia and Zayed both took four shots each to lead the squad. Zayed finished with a team leading three SOGs.
 
William Blake (0-2-1) made two saves in the contest.
 
In all, 33 fouls were called in the contest with 18 going against UWA and the other 15 against Auburn Montgomery. Five yellow cards were called between the teams.
 
West Alabama returns to action Friday in Tiger Stadium against Spring Hill College. The match in Livingston, Alabama is set for a 7:30 p.m. start time. Game links will be available on uwaathletics.com.
