Tigers Take Tough Loss to CBU

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – On a ball that looked more like a cross than an actual shot, Christian Brothers University found a way to beat the elements and defeat the University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team 1-0 in double overtime Friday night in Tiger Stadium in Gulf South Conference action.

UWA falls to 3-7-2 on the season and 1-4-2 in the GSC. CBU moves up to 7-7-0 overall and 5-4-0 in the conference.

The goal mentioned came off the foot of Alvaro Martinez from 20 yards out on the right side of the pitch with an assist from Omar Halim to serve as the golden goal at the 105:17 mark in the contest.

UWA finished the rain-soaked match with seven shots while CBU posted five shots. Both teams posted three shots on goal. Maxime Correia and Ben Walker both led with two shots each while the two along with Peter Oyetunji picked up the SOGs.

The Tigers played a man down in the second overtime after Adam Zayed picked up a second yellow card at the 97:11 mark in the first overtime period. In all, six yellow cards were passed out and 29 fouls were called.

West Alabama returns to action Sunday with a GSC matchup against Union. The final home match of the regular season for the Tigers is set to start at 3:30 p.m. Links to live stats and live video are available on uwaathletics.com.
