Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers Grab Shutout Victory in Home Finale

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Men's Soccer team needed the win Sunday afternoon in Tiger Stadium, and they earned the win in shutout fashion with a 4-0 victory over the Union Bulldogs in Gulf South Conference action.

UWA improves to 4-7-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the conference as the win keeps hopes alive for qualifying for the GSC Men's Championship Tournament. Union falls to 6-7-0 on the year and 4-6-0 in the GSC.

"It feels fantastic to finally get the win that we deserve. All the credit has to go to the players," said Head coach Ross Nelson. "Results haven't exactly been a fair reflection of how well we have been playing as of late, and it can be so easy to get disheartened as a player during times like that. The guys have shown great character to keep their heads down, keep believing, and keep working hard. They finally got rewarded tonight! It's important now that we build on this result and keeping moving forward. We are gaining momentum and the right time."

Maxime Correia had a great day on the pitch and scored two goals, the first at 19:40 with an assist from Ben Walker, and the second unassisted at 72 minutes.

Callum Rai scored with an assist from Hugo Courchinoux at the 65:48 mark and Joshua Snowball capped the scoring with an aggressive unassisted goal at 86:21 to give UWA the 4-0 final score.

A well-balanced contest, West Alabama barely edged Union in shots, 6-4, and both teams finished with four shots on goal each.

Correia and Rai both took two shots to pace the Tigers.

William Blake (1-4-2) earned his first win as the UWA goalkeeper and his second shutout.

West Alabama returns to action on November 1 against the Lee Flames in Cleveland, Tennessee. Match time is set for 6 p.m. central with game links available on uwaathletics.com.
