Volleyball Drops GSC Match to Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The return to Gul South Conference competition did not prove to be a fruitful night for the University of West Alabama Volleyball team as the Tigers fell in three sets to the Montevallo Falcons Friday in Trustmark Arena.
 
UWA falls to 7-17 overall and 1-7 in the GSC. Montevallo improves to 13-11 on the season and 6-3 in the conference.
 
Montevallo won the first set, 25-14, the second set, 25-20 and the final set 25-18.
 
Bret Luther led UWA with nine kills while Taylor Donato and Lindsey Heller both finished with five kills each. The junior middle blocker posted a solid .294 hitting percentage in the loss.
 
Grace Harris passed 14 assists and Desiree Blount added 11 assists.
 
Rebecca Johnson led the back row with 16 digs while Donato posted 11 digs. Heller and Luther both posted two total blocks.
 
Evelina Teran posted 12 kills and Brioni Dixon added 10 kills to lead Montevallo. Savannah Roys passed 36 assists to keep the Falcon offense moving.
 
As a united, Montevallo posted a .233 attack percentage compared to just a .059 attack percentage for UWA.
