Tiger Rally Falls Short against UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – It seemed as if the University of West Alabama Volleyball team was going to do to Alabama Huntsville what had plagued the Tigers last weekend ad come back from a two-set deficit, but it was not to be as the hosting Chargers won the fifth set and the Gulf South Conference match Saturday afternoon in Spragins Hall.
 
UWA falls to 7-18 on the season and 1-8 in conference play. UAH is now 17-7 overall and 8-1 in the GSC.
 
The Chargers won the first two sets 25-10 and 25-16 respectively before the Tigers won the third game, 25-21 and the fourth, 25-20. However, the UWA rally fell short as Alabama Huntsville won the fifth and final set, 15-13.
 
Ally Craig had a strong match with a contest leading 18 kills on a .188 hitting percentage. Jessica Akiona went for 13 kills with a .333 hitting percentage while Taylor Donato posted 11 kills on a .330 hitting percentage alongside eight digs, three blocks and two service aces.
 
Grace Harris passed 26 assists and notched two service aces while Desiree Blount totaled 19 assists.
 
Rebecca Johnson led the back row with 26 digs and was the only Tiger with double-digit digs.
 
As a unit, the UWA attack posted a .190 hitting percentage with 51 kills, 23 errors and 147 total attacks. The Tiger defensive effort resulted in 61 digs and seven total blocks.
 
Molly Presnell led UAH with 15 kills while Isabelle Barnes had 12 kills and Kendall Scharbert posted 11 kills.
 
West Alabama returns to action on November 1 against Shorter University. The Tigers will host a costume party on the evening with the match starting at 6 p.m. The contest against the Hawks will be the start of five home matches in eight days for UWA.
