Tigers Fall in GSC Road Match to VSU

VALDOSTA, Ga. – In need to win contest for both squads' postseason hopes, the University of West Alabama Volleyball team lost in straight sets to the Valdosta State Blazers, 3-0, Friday night in Gulf South Conference action at the Complex.
 
UWA falls to 10-21 overall and 4-11 in the GSC while VSU improves to 12-19 on the season and 4-11 in the conference.
 
The heartbreaking aspect of the match was how close it was with the Blazers winning the first set 26-24, the second game 25-23 and the final set 25-20 to keep the Tigers from getting over the hump.
 
Jessica Akiona, Taylor Donato and Ally Craig all had nine kills for UWA while Grace Harris finished with 19 assists to move the Tiger attack.
 
Rebecca Johnson led the back row with 20 digs. Donato added 17 and Akiona had 11 digs in the match. Leah Koltz led the front line with four total blocks.
 
As a team, UWA posted a .093 attack percentage with 35 kills and 22 errors on 140 attacks. VSU finished with a .166 attack percentage with 46 kills and 20 errors on 157 total attacks.
 
Kennedy DeLuca notched 12 kills to lead the Blazers while Keelyn Williams and Dariah Powell both added 10 kills each.
 
West Alabama returns to action tomorrow in a must win match against West Georgia set to start at 1 p.m. central. UWA will need a win over the Wolves and a loss by Valdosta State to Mississippi College to qualify for the GSC Volleyball Championship Tournament.
