Tigers Push Back the Flames in GSC Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The visitors put up a valiant fight, but the University of West Alabama Volleyball team held together and defeated the Lee University Flames in four sets Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action.
 
UWA improves to 9-18 overall and 3-8 in the conference while Lee falls to 9-18 and 2-10 in the GSC.
 
"We fought hard for a good win on Senior Day, and it was great to get a couple wins in a row," said Head coach Hilary Lobenstein. "We look forward to these next few matches, over this long week."
 
The Tigers won the first set, 25-22 and the second set, 25-23. Lee won the third set with the score 27-25 before West Alabama put the match away with a 26-24 fourth game win.
 
Ally Craig led with 14 kills while Taylor Donato posted a senior day double-double with 12 kills and 19 digs. Grace Harris notched 23 assists while Desiree Blount passed 19 assists. Bret Luther and Harris posted two service aces each.
 
Johnson tied a career high with 30 digs with Blount adding 12 and both Heloisa Niespodzinski and Harris both getting 10 digs each.  
 
Leah Koltz turned in eight total blocks with seven block assists. Craig added six total blocks on the front line.
 
The offense wasn't as efficient as Friday night, but got the job done with a .115 attach percentage. Donato led the primary attackers with a .118 percentage. 
 
Lee's Quinne Daoust led all attackers with 15 kills and Bailey Kress added 12 kills for the Flames.
 
West Alabama returns to action November 5 against Mississippi College. Match time in Pruitt Hall is set for 6 p.m. with links to live video and live stats available on uwaathletics.com.
