Tigers Suffer Home Defeat to MC, 3-0

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Volleyball team fought hard in the final set to avoid what was coming but fell short in the rally as Mississippi College earned the win in three sets Tuesday night in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium in Gulf South Conference action.
 
UWA fell to 9-19 on the season and 3-9 in GSC play while MC moved to 9-19 and 4-8 in the conference and earned their first win in Livingston since 1994.
 
The Choctaws won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-17, respectively. In the third game, UWA led 24-22 before MC went on a three-point run to take the lead. From there both teams went back and forth before Mississippi College scored two points straight to win the set, 29-27, and the match, 29-27.
 
Bret Luther turned in a solid outing with a team leading eight kills on a .300 attack percentage to go along three blocks to lead the front line and four digs. Taylor Donato and Lindey Heller both had seven kills, Jessica Akiona had six and Ally Craig totaled five kills. 
 
Three Tigers secured double doubles in assists and digs as Desiree Blount had 13 assists and 12 digs, Grace Harris finished with 11 assists and 14 digs and the current GSC Defensive Player of the Week Rebecca Johnson passed 10 assists and had a team leading 19 digs.
 
Kendall Platt and Jamie Boros both finished with 11 kills to lead the Choctaws.
 
As a unit, MC put up a .161 attack percentage with 43 kills and 20 errors on 143 total attacks while UWA posted a .092 attack percentage with 36 kills and 23 errors on 142 attacks.
 
West Alabama returns to action in Pruitt Hall Thursday night against the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks. Match time is set for 6 p.m. with game links on uwathletics.com. AUM won the first meeting between the two teams 3-2.
