Tigers Drop Fierce Battle with Argos

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama Volleyball team led in every set Friday night against the West Florida Argonauts, but the visitors found a way to escape with a 3-1 win in Gulf South Conference action in the regular season finale in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium. 
 
UWA falls to 10-20 overall and 4-10 in the GSC while the Argos improve to 21-8 and 13-0 in the league play.
 
"We had consistent communication, effort, and energy all match, and our blocking was the best it has been as of late," said Head coach Hilary Lobenstein. "We played well against a good West Florida team, and for our last home match of the season."
 
Leah Koltz finished just shy of the UWA Record Book with eight total blocks with six block assists. Ally Craig finished with five total blocks and Taylor Donato was right behind them with four total blocks. As a unit, the Tigers finished with 13 total blocks which was the highest mark of the season.
 
Both Tiger seniors had solid outings as Donato led the match in kills with 19 while adding 14 digs and Rebecca Johnson paced UWA with a match leading 22 digs.
 
Donato's kill total came on a .319 attack percentage which was the highest among UWA's primary attackers.
 
Desiree Blount passed 21 assists to lead the team while Grace Harris notched 20 assists.
 
The UWA attack posted a .194 percentage with 53 kills and 22 errors on 160 attacks. UWF posted a .248 attack percentage with 60 kills and 21 errors on 157 attacks.
 
Veresia Yon led the Argos with 15 kills while Jordyn Poppen had 14 and Ebony Powers totaled 13 kills.
 
The quest to qualify for the GSC Volleyball Championship Tournament is very much alive for West Alabama and it will continue with two road matches starting with Valdosta State. Match time is set for 5 p.m. central. Game links will be available on uwaathletics.com.
