UWA SAAC Making Christmas Come Early

LIVINGSTON – Thanks to the UWA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Tiger sports and athletic training programs, Christmas is coming early to Pruitt Hall Gym on the University of West Alabama campus Tuesday evening.

Facilitated by the SAAC and Assistant Athletic Director for Academics Mike Jones, each Tiger team has a designated family to help provide Christmas for, with gender, age, and a "wish list" for each child. In addition to gifts, each team will supply and decorate a Christmas tree for the event.

"We want to create a fun, exciting and special atmosphere for a lot of children who certainly deserve it," Jones said. "As student-athletes, coaches and administrators, we are so blessed. Hopefully this is a way we can give a little something back."

Each Tiger team will have a designated spot on the Pruitt Hall Gym floor for their tree and gifts for each family. Families were identified for assistance due to financial obstacles, disabilities, challenging family dynamics and life-threatening illnesses.

Through SAAC, student-athletes have a voice in the NCAA through advisory committees at the campus, conference, and national level. Each committee is made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience.

The UWA committee is made up of a minimum of two representatives from each NCAA-sponsored sport at West Alabama.
