Men’s Hoops Preview: On the Road at CBU and Union

Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
West Alabama travels to Memphis, Tennessee to face the Christian Brothers Buccaneers in Gulf South Conference action in the Canale Arena.

Saturday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m.
West Alabama will face the Union Bulldogs in Jackson, Tennessee in the Fred DeLay Gymnasium in GSC competition.

West Alabama
The Tigers are 18-5 overall and 13-3 in conference play and riding a nine-game winning streak. UWA is 7-2 on the road.
 
Christian Brothers
The Bucs are 17-7 overall and 14-4 in the conference. CBU is on a four-game winning streak and 9-3 at home.
 
Union
The Bulldogs are 15-9 overall and 10-6 in conference play. Union saw a recent six-game winning streak snapped by CBU Saturday. They are 8-3 at home.
 
Last Meeting with CBU
UWA used a strong second half to force three overtimes with Christian Brothers who won the game in Pruitt Hall Gymnasium 93-88 on Jan. 10. LaJuan Hardy went for 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. DeAndre Harper grabbed a career high 23 rebounds and scored 17. Josh Fleming also had 19 points. Joe Laravie led CBU with 34 points and 12 rebounds. This was UWA's last loss.
 
Last Meeting with Union
UWA erased another halftime deficit to defeat the Bulldogs 62-57 in Pruitt Hall on Jan. 12. Josh Fleming scored 17 points to lead the way for the Tigers in victory.

Josh Fleming is the leading scorer for UWA with 13 points a game. LaJuan Hardy is averaging 12.9 points, 5.5 assists and 4.9 rebounds. DeAndre Harper leads in rebounding with 6.6 a game.

West Alabama sports the top defense in the GSC giving up an average of 65.1 points per game. The Tigers are the are team in the league to have given up less than 1500 points total going into the weekend. The defense ranks as the 10th best in all of NCAA Division II.
 
Standings and Rankings
UWA sits atop the Gulf South Conference standings and would be the Top seed in the GSC Championship Tournament if the season ended today. The Tigers are also #4 in the D2SIDA Men's Basketball Rankings. They are the highest ranked of four conference teams including Christian Brothers who sits at No.8. West Alabama also received votes for the first time this season in the National Association of Basketball Coaches poll.
